Universities Accord (Opening the Doors of Opportunity) Bill 2026

Senator FARUQI (New South Wales—Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens) (10:18): I move Greens amendment (1) on sheet 4114: (1) Schedule 1, item 16, page 29 (line 14), after "consecutive years", insert "ending immediately". This is also to provide certainty. The reference year for the definition of overenrolled places will now be based on the year immediately prior to the reference year.

This means that the calculation for a provider's overenrolled places will be based on the year prior and based on their most recent growth instead of the minister being allowed to pick and choose which year of a provider's history to calculate overenrolments against. The minister and the government have seen sense with this amendment, and I appreciate that they have.

Question agreed to.
