Dr HAINES (Indi) (13:30): It's showtime—agricultural show time. Every spring, regional communities across Victoria come together for what is often one of their most important annual events. Agricultural shows are so much more than a fun day out, though.

They're an opportunity for local farmers, producers and crafters to showcase their accomplishments and connect with their peers. Schools, service clubs and other community organisations build connections and participation that underpin their work for the rest of the year. And, of course, there's always a welcome boost to the local economy.

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the 160th Wangaratta Show, an incredible anniversary that is a testament to the hard work of organisers and volunteers like Secretary Charmane Bennett and Treasurer Bev Tiffin, without whose efforts this show simply could not happen. Now, the animals are always a favourite, and it was particularly great to see the chooks and the ducks after what has been a tumultuous year for our poultry farmers.

The Indi show season kicked off in Corryong, and over the coming weeks there will be events in Benalla, Euroa, Rutherglen, Myrtleford, Alexandra, Mansfield and Yea. I encourage everyone in this chamber to head along to Indi and come to one of our shows. And, while you're there, make sure you get a slice of fruit cake, because the electorate of Indi had a clean sweep in the Victorian state finals, taking out first, second and third place in the rich fruit cake category.
