Mr DAVID SMITH (Bean—Government Whip) (13:35): This Saturday, Woden Town parkrun celebrates its first birthday, and I rise to congratulate everyone who has made its remarkable first year possible. Since launching in October 2025, Woden Town parkrun has become a much-needed and highly valued addition to the Woden community. In its first year, more than 18,000 people have crossed the finish line, with the event regularly welcoming 300 to 400 people every Saturday morning.

In just its second week, Woden Town parkrun attracted 731 participants, breaking the ACT parkrun attendance record—an extraordinary start for a new community event. But parkrun is about much more than running. Almost 500 different people have volunteered during the year, giving their time to make this free community event possible every Saturday.

I particularly congratulate event directors Lili Mooney and Andrew Dempster, the Woden Town parkrun event team and the hundreds of volunteers who have built such a strong community in just 12 months. Congratulations again to Woden Town parkrun and to everyone involved. I look forward to seeing what your second year brings.

I might have to walk this weekend, though.
