STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms FERNANDO (Holt) (13:49): I rise today to speak about George Massouris and his incredible contribution to Cranbourne Secondary College and our local community. George started at Nathalia High School in 1986, before joining Cranbourne Secondary College in 1989. Over the past 37 years, he has taught and mentored thousands of students across our community.

George became assistant principal in 2013, continuing to play an important role in the lives of students. I first met George after being elected to parliament in 2022. I remember mentioning my love of baklava and, the next time I saw him, his mum had kindly made some for me.

It's a small gesture, but it says so much about the warmth of George and his family. George has always understood the importance of bringing people together. Through his work, George has instrumentally been promoting the many cultures that make up our community, helping to build a strong sense of pride and belonging among students, staff and families.

After 40 years in education, George deserves our sincere thanks. He leaves behind a lasting legacy, and he will be greatly missed. Happy retirement, George.
