STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms BERRY (Whitlam) (13:46): I rise today to honour the proud history of the Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club, which this year marks an incredible 90 years of service to our community. That is 90 years of dedicated locals keeping watch over the community while we're enjoying one of Australia's most iconic national treasures: our beaches. Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club has over 1,000 members, reflecting the tremendous support they enjoy across the Shellharbour community.

The club's achievements are founded on the dedication of their fantastic volunteers, whether they are patrolling our beaches, operating radio communications, undertaking admin, fundraising for equipment and facilities or running surf carnivals. Importantly, the club's service extends beyond Shellharbour. In a demonstration of true surf lifesaving spirit, members provide volunteer patrol support to Sussex Inlet & District Surf Life Saving Club and Windang Surf Life Saving Club, offering beach safety across the region.

The club has produced outstanding leaders and results, including a junior lifesaver of the year in 2010. Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club was recently recognised by Shellharbour Council, winning the year's Community Capacity Builder award. This year, Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club was also awarded Club of the Year by Surf Life Saving NSW.

This is an honour that reflects decades of dedication, leadership, community service and lifesaving excellence.
