Tribune’s note

Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King marked the completion of Stage 1 of the $92 million Mile End Sports Complex redevelopment in South Australia on 25 April, with upgraded outdoor netball courts now operational and hosting senior competitions through the Adelaide Metropolitan Netball Division [TA-260425-infras-f5e1fadac658]. The federal and state governments each contributed $3 million — totalling $6 million — to deliver new playing surfaces, shelters, seating, a first-aid facility, shade structures and LED lighting.

Construction generated 20 jobs, and Netball SA will employ four full-time and 30 casual staff to run ongoing operations at the venue. Stage 2 is already underway: demolition of the existing stadium has begun, with plans for a new multi-sport precinct featuring indoor courts, a 3,000-seat main arena and upgraded spectator facilities for Netball SA and Volleyball SA, targeting a 2028 opening.

The release frames this investment as part of a broader portfolio approach using federal funding to modernise grassroots sport infrastructure in support of community participation, elite training pathways and long-term regional development.
