Tribune’s note

Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced $2.5 million in humanitarian assistance to Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea on 12 April 2026 in response to Tropical Cyclone Maila [TA-260412-foreig-792f5685b58c]. The allocation splits $1.5 million to Solomon Islands, where severe impacts were concentrated in remote communities across Western and Choiseul provinces, and $1 million to Papua New Guinea, with particular focus on the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and islands in Milne Bay Province [TA-260412-foreig-792f5685b58c].

Delivery will run through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership program, engaging local non-government organisations and partner governments to provide lifesaving relief supplies and technical support. The response reflects Australia's standing bilateral relationships with both Pacific nations and the operational reach of the Australian Humanitarian Partnership as the government's primary channel for rapid Pacific disaster response.

No parliamentary activity was recorded for this date; the comms stream is the sole source for this Note.
