Portfolio — 11 May 2026
Tribune’s note
Foreign Minister Wong used 11 May to advance two distinct foreign policy instruments simultaneously: targeted sanctions against Iran and budget-backed Indo-Pacific partnership investment. The sanctions package — financial restrictions and travel bans on seven Iranian individuals and four entities — targets oppression, violence against women and children, and support for terrorist proxies.
The 2026–27 Budget allocates $33.2 million to Indonesia institutional ties, $25.3 million to Australian business engagement with India, and $60.5 million to consular services, framing economic and diplomatic investment as central to regional security.
