Tribune’s note

In question time on 13 May 2026, Minister Anne Aly used a question from the member for Brisbane to outline the government's small business support package in the budget. The centrepiece measures are $3.5 billion in new business tax relief, a permanent $20,000 instant asset write-off saving approximately $32 million per year in compliance costs, and a permanent two-year loss carry-back provision.

The minister also pointed to more than $10 billion in economy-wide regulatory cost reductions — including a 'tell us once' harmonisation approach — and linked fee-free TAFE and apprenticeship incentives to small business workforce access.
