Tribune’s note

Clare O'Neil used both her ministerial media releases and Question Time on 14 May to prosecute the same argument: the budget delivers concrete housing and cost-of-living relief while the opposition's reply is an uncosted $100 billion black hole. Her QT appearance put numbers to the housing agenda — a $47 billion package, $6.3 billion in infrastructure to unlock 65,000 homes, a 26 percent rise in commencements, and the five-percent deposit scheme's 240,000 beneficiaries — figures that tracked directly with the messaging in her media releases the same day.

Across both streams she also signalled a migration-reduction strategy tied to domestic housing supply, aged-care progress and capital gains tax and negative gearing reforms as complementary levers for younger buyers.
