Portfolio — 7 May 2026

Tribune’s note

Assistant Minister Rebecca White used two coordinated communications on 7 May to launch the first formal public consultation on mandatory Health Star Rating labelling for packaged foods, run by Food Standards Australia New Zealand with submissions open until 21 June. The proposal would require front-of-pack star ratings on most packaged foods, creating a consistent reference point for consumers comparing nutritional quality.

White also flagged a newly released feasibility study on junk-food advertising to children, signalling the government is actively scoping a second front of nutrition policy but has not yet committed to further action.
