Tribune’s note

Angus Taylor used a Coalition media release to mark the transition of Australia's top military leadership, congratulating Vice Admiral Mark Hammond on his appointment as Chief of the Defence Force and welcoming Lieutenant General Susan Coyle as Chief of Army and Rear Admiral Matthew Buckley as Chief of Navy [TA-260413-libera-5861b58a14f5]. The release served as more than a protocol acknowledgement: Taylor framed the leadership transition against an explicit strategic warning, describing Australia's environment as "uncertain, contested and rapidly evolving" and asserting that keeping citizens safe is "no greater government responsibility" [TA-260413-libera-5861b58a14f5].

That framing positions the Coalition as focused on defence readiness and implicitly sets a benchmark against which the government's defence posture can be measured. The release also recognised the outgoing CDF, Admiral David Johnston, and retiring Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, acknowledging the personal sacrifices of both officers and their families over the course of their careers [TA-260413-libera-5861b58a14f5].

No parliamentary activity was recorded for Taylor on this date; today's output is drawn from the comms stream alone.
