The Coalition released a set of guiding principles for Murray-Darling Basin water policy, positioning the package as a direct challenge to Labor's water-buyback program and a bid to restore productive capacity to Basin farming communities [TA-260427-libera-36c59690a661]. The principles have three operational cores: halt any further reductions to water available for agriculture; expand the consumptive pool for farmers, towns and businesses; and reform the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder to return surplus water to the productive market rather than holding it for environmental purposes [TA-260427-libera-36c59690a661].
