The Minister for Sport and Minister for Communications, Ms Wells, used three simultaneous PM media releases on 26 March to advance the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games infrastructure programme, locking in architect appointments and design parameters across venues at different stages of development.

The most operationally significant announcement concerned the Brisbane Stadium. Early preparatory works are scheduled to begin on 1 June, making this the nearest-term construction trigger of the three announcements.

For the Sunshine Coast Stadium, Architectus has been appointed principal architect to lead an upgrade that will expand grandstand capacity tenfold — from 1,046 seats to more than 10,000 — and deliver new eastern and western grandstands, community spaces, and improved amenities [TA-260326-infras-b170ed15088b]. The scale of that capacity increase positions the Sunshine Coast facility as one of the programme's more substantial regional investments.

Populous has been selected as principal architect for the new Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre, which is designed around 12 multi-use courts and a spectator capacity of 10,000 for Games events [TA-260326-infras-a287c4bcc3e0:m264121]. The facility's brief explicitly extends to serving community demand beyond 2032, signalling that post-Games legacy use is embedded in the design brief from the outset.

Across all three announcements, the Minister emphasised that appointments follow 12 months of stakeholder consultation since the 2032 Delivery Plan release. That framing positions today's decisions as a delivery milestone rather than a planning exercise, and the choice of established international and national design firms — Populous, Architectus, COX Architecture, and Hassell — reinforces the programme's operational maturity.
