Shadow Portfolio — 14 May 2026

Tribune’s note

Phillip Thompson used a parliamentary intervention on 14 May to attack two distinct veterans' support decisions: a $5,000 cap on allied health services and the defunding of Invictus Australia. Thompson argued the allied health cap will produce serious unintended consequences for veterans with complex, chronic service-related conditions, citing concern from within the Department of Veterans' Affairs itself.

The opposition's dual attack — on both individual health entitlements and community recovery programs — positions the coalition as the defender of veteran services against what it characterises as Labor spending cuts.
