Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain announced a $7.3 million contract awarded to DAC Enterprises to redesign a four-way intersection on the Stuart Highway north of Tennant Creek [TA-260625-infras-3e2bdd825b25]. The engineering solution converts the existing four-way junction into two staggered T-intersections, each fitted with dedicated right-turn lanes from the Stuart Highway and left-turn slip lanes — a configuration intended to reduce conflict points for motorists, tourists and freight operators moving through the Barkly region.

The project is jointly funded by the Albanese and Finocchiaro governments under the Road Safety Program, which has committed more than $140 million to the Northern Territory [TA-260625-infras-3e2bdd825b25]. McBain framed the announcement as delivery against a standing commitment to improve safety on one of Australia's most significant remote highways, noting the connectivity benefits for regional families and the freight task serving the Barkly.
