Portfolio note · Tuesday 12 May 2026

Shadow Portfolio — 12 May 2026

Tribune’s note

Senator Matt O'Sullivan's Senate activity on 12 May 2026 covered two discrete matters. In the more substantive intervention, O'Sullivan used the death of five-year-old Kumanjayi Little Baby in Alice Springs to press for a review of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child placement principle, arguing that cultural considerations must not override child safety, and identifying a cluster of systemic failures — housing, poverty, domestic violence, and inadequate government investment — as requiring urgent reform.

He also delivered a tribute to the late Bill Grayden, a former WA MP and Second World War veteran who died at age 105, recounting Grayden's service on the Kokoda Track, at Buna-Gona, and at Balikpapan before outlining his four-decade parliamentary career.
