Portfolio — 11 May 2026

Tribune’s note

Assistant Minister Chisholm used the 2026–27 Budget to announce $12.1 billion in new infrastructure spending, the largest single commitment in today's media release activity. Transport projects claim $10.3 billion of that total, led by $3.8 billion for the Suburban Rail Loop East and $1.75 billion for national freight rail upgrades. The portfolio simultaneously deployed a range of smaller but strategically distinct measures — the $1.1 billion Cleaner Fuels Program, a Green Fuel Bunkering Strategy, and expanded aviation consumer protections — signalling that the budget investment spans conventional infrastructure, fuel security, and passenger rights in a single package.
