Portfolio — 2 June 2026

Tribune’s note

Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs and Assistant Minister for International Education Julian Hill had a brief and procedurally constrained appearance during consideration of Appropriation Bill No. 1 2026–2027 on 2 June. Hill opened by rating performance art seven out of ten — a light exchange that preceded what he indicated was an intended substantive session.

He stated he had prepared to answer several questions on the portfolio but the opposition's decision to call numerous divisions consumed the available time, cutting short the estimates-style exchange [TA-260602-house-c5d321b8ff24:s117]. The proposed expenditure was ultimately agreed to. The episode is notable primarily as a procedural footnote: the ministerial record for this sitting day is thin by circumstance rather than by choice, and no substantive policy positions on citizenship, multicultural affairs, customs, or international education were placed on the record.
