Tribune’s note

Minister Bowen managed two distinct but interconnected energy security pressures on 25 March. In Question Time, he reported a live national fuel shortage crisis, with eastern states carrying the heaviest outage burden, while announcing that all six cancelled April shipments have been replaced and 757 million litres has been directed to rural and regional Australia through minimum stock obligation releases.

Separately, a PM media release cited AEMO's latest forecast showing gas adequacy risks have shifted from 2029 to 2030, with the government crediting its renewables-and-gas mix and advancing a domestic gas reservation model for 2027. Both streams carry the same policy signal: the government is framing near-term supply disruption as manageable through active coordination, while pointing to structural electrification trends as the medium-term solution.
