Tribune’s note

The Government announced $50 million in the 2026–27 Budget for priority upgrades to the Sydney–Canberra rail corridor, with matched $25 million contributions from NSW and the ACT bringing total funding to $100 million. Works begin this year, prioritising the Goulburn–Canberra section, and will run for up to five years across a broad scope including new express services, safety infrastructure, track works, and stabling.

A funded business case will map further network and timetable improvements. The portfolio frames the investment as a capacity, reliability, and regional growth measure delivered in partnership with state and territory governments.
