Tribune’s note

The Middle East crisis dominated the PM's day across both procedural and substantive activity. The procedural opening — with the Emergency Management Minister absent visiting flood-affected Katherine and the PM acknowledging deaths near Kilkivan — signalled the government is simultaneously managing an international security emergency and a domestic natural disaster response.

In question time, the PM framed Australia's fuel-security position as well-prepared against an unprecedented global shock, citing IEA's 400-million-barrel release, fuel reserves exceeding minimum obligations across all three categories, and 3,600 Australians already repatriated from 26 flights. The ADF Wedgetail deployment and AMRAAM weapons provision to protect the 24,000 Australians in the UAE represent the most consequential operational announcement of the day.

The government's explicit positioning — managing overlapping crises while contrasting Opposition focus — ran as a consistent thread from the procedural stage through to question time.
