Shadow Portfolio — 12 May 2026

Tribune’s note

National Party Deputy Leader Darren Chester used question time on 12 May to challenge Labor's credibility on tax commitments, invoking the Prime Minister's own pre-election pledge not to impose new taxes on farmers and small businesses. Chester turned the Prime Minister's words — "when I make a commitment and when I say I will do something, I do it" — into a direct challenge: why should Australians trust any future commitment from this government.

The attack is a single parliamentary intervention drawing on one Hansard record; no media release or comms activity accompanied it on this date.
