Civic use principlesGovernance

These principles reflect Tribune's commitment to supporting democratic participation through safe and responsible use of public information.

Democratic FoundationLiberal democracy — embodying free speech, fair elections, equal voting rights, rule of law, transparent decision-making, and accountable public authority — is the foundation for safety and progress. Tribune's products operate on this basis.
Zero Tolerance for ViolenceTribune's products cannot be used to incite violence. We will never permit content developed for or in support of any prescribed terrorist organisation in Australia.
Accuracy and VerificationBetter contributions to politics and public policy depend on accurate and useful information. Tribune's products represent every person's views as fairly as possible, with mechanisms for correction. We make it easy to find sources. Our foundational information is exactly what you can access online yourself — we do no deals with any government to access this information. This enables verification and accountable engagement.
Focused EngagementBetter politics and public policy come from focused engagement, insight, and awareness — not entertainment. Tribune's products help you find useful information quickly without wasting time or providing useless content.
Privacy and AnonymityWe take learning about politics and public policy seriously and believe privacy is essential for effective engagement. All privacy standards apply fully. You have privacy to form opinions, conduct research on issues — for example, as a journalist, adviser, or interested person — with anonymity.
Disclosure

Violation of these principles or Tribune's Terms of Use may result in account suspension. In serious cases — including content that incites violence or supports prescribed organisations — account information may be disclosed to relevant authorities.

This disclosure provision exists because we take these principles seriously, not as a general surveillance measure. In practice, we expect it will never be used.
